چکیده

Optical heterodyning is a detection scheme that allows the preferential detection of ballistic photons transmitted through a random media, enabling the imaging of absorbing structures within. We introduce a normalized cross-correlation function as a quantitative measure of image quality and employ it to investigate the effect of source coherence length on the ability of optical heterodyning to detect these absorbing structures. The ability to image, in transmission, is found to be greatly enhanced using a reduced coherence length source. The effect on image quality of the transport mean-freepath length is quantified and found to depend on source coherence length. The necessity of considering scatterer particle-particle correlations is also presented. PACS numbers: 42.30.Wb, 42.25.Bs, 42.62.Be, 42.68.Ay

Complete Two-dimensional Muellermetric Imaging of Biological Tissue Using Heterodyned Optical Coherence Tomography

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is widely used in biological sub-surface imaging due to its non-contact, non-destructive properties and high resolution [1,2,3,4]. Many biological tissues, such as tendon, bone, and tooth, exhibit birefringence because of their linear or fibrous structure, which alters the polarization state of light propagating in them [5,6]. For the purpose of acquiring the ...

Complete complex conjugate resolved heterodyne swept source optical coherence tomography using a dispersive optical delay line: erratum

We correct an error in our previous paper [Biomed. Opt. Express 2, 1218 (2011)] which led to an erroneous conclusion that a dispersive optical delay line (DODL) used in a swept source optical coherence tomography (SSOCT) system generated a pure phase modulation allowing for complex conjugate artifact removal in Fourier domain OCT via optical heterodyning. We now understand that an alternate phe...

Ballistic attenuation of low-coherence optical fields.

Using a novel experimental geometry, we measured the ballistic attenuation of low-coherence optical fields propagating in multiple-scattering media. The high dynamic range and the angular filtering capability permit detecting the ballistic component through random media thicker than 20 mean free paths. Owing to the accuracy of the technique, we observe deviations from the standard Lambert-Beer ...

Development of an Advanced Optical Coherence Tomography System for Radiation Dosimetry

Introduction: According to the literature, optical coherence tomography (OCT) can be used measure radiation absorbed dose. This study was carried out to design a computed tomography system for the calculation of absorbed dose and optimization of dose delivery in radiotherapy using gel dosimeters. Material and Methods: An advanced charge-coupled device based OCT system was developed in laborator...

Optical generation of rapidly tunable millimeter wave subcarrier - Microwave and Optoelectronics Conference, 1999. SBMO/IEEE MTT-S, APS and LEOS - IMOC '99. Internat

Several application, like frequency chirped lidarradar system, opticdwireless communications and biomedical imaging, require optical transmitters that can generate rapidly tunable, low phase noise and low intensity noise millimeter wave sub-carriers. Using an electro-optic Nd:LiNbOJ microchip laser in an optical heterodyning scheme, we designed a simple, robust, monolithic and low-cost optical ...
